Irish Ballads
Preserving Irish Tradition
Bill Davis, Marcy Dubec, Bill Lewis amd Ted Miller search through dusty
old library stacks, pore over old tomes, listen to old recordings, and
work with older traditional musicians in their search for rare and
unusual versions of songs. They frequently embellish shows with
Australian or Scottish Ballads. They consider themselves to be
historians and researchers as much as musicians.
Lively Entertainment Presentations
The group derives its material from several different sources, so in a
single performance you may hear romantic ballads, sea shantys and sailing
songs, the intricate melodies of a slow aire, the mood and sense of
history of the patriotic and rebel songs, the sentimental warmth of the
Irish-American favorites, the infectious humor of the novelty and
drinking songs, and the upbeat lift of the jigs and hornpipes. Their
performance style is personal, powerful, unpredictable, traditional and
thoroughly enjoyable.
